Re: KTM 500exc exhaust heat
Hi Richard, the std exhaust will be hotter than a Akro or any other straight through can, if you want to keep the std one then drill out the rivets on the rear end and convert the insides to straight through using a 50mm perforated pipe. It will run much cooler and of course sound better. I don't think your alli plate will help at all, better to find some heat shield material from the car industry. I have wrapped my Akro's with 2 stroke exhaust packing, while this does not stop the heat completely it does reduce it.

Re: KTM 500exc exhaust heat
Hi Chris I've taken the plunge and bought the Akro. It runs a lot cooler than the original and gives another 1/2 inch clearance. I had it ticking over for 10 or 15 minutes and there was nowhere near the heat as there was before - I could put my hand on the plate without scalding myself. I think I will put on some heat resistant reflective sheeting as per Andi Archers suggestion. Cheers Rich
