There's a good video on the tube from DID and a Japanese bike mag? about cleaning and lubing your chain, quite amusing to watch if you're bored one day but it's got some good tips in it, like turn the wheel backwards so you don't trap your fingers between the chain and rear sprocket
I use deb jissa and a toothbrush to clean my chain and then dry and lube it after washing the rest of the bike, I also use a Scott oiler but I'm not that sure it's that much better than just lubing every couple hundred miles, at least you give the chain a quick look over while lubing.
(I wonder if I can get "lubing" in any more sentences?)
