So riding back from work in Hereford I thought the bike feels weird.
Stopped and checked the rear wheel for movement as it felt the same as a dodgey bike shop I had that forgot to put the spacer in the rear wheel
Bike was solid
Got to Monmouth and the bike would not hold its line and felt down right dangerous
Stopped checked to find 10 mm movement in the rear wheel
Tentatively road home at 30mph. Tyre totally scrubbed off, I took the wheel off and the bearing has failed monumentally as the photo
Anyone had this happen to them before?

Re: BMW F800GS rear bearing failure
My CCM644 collapsed a rear wheel bearing after keeping up with KTM Exc's on the Sarn Helen. At the end of the day big heavy bikes riding offroad at speed, through muddy puddles etc is going to wear stuff out quicker than if you stick to tarmac, sealed bearings or not doesn't make them last forever.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

Re: BMW F800GS rear bearing failure
I used SKF in my front got the set of ebay including both seals for about 12 quid posted, could have got cheaper but I know SKF are good bearings.a back set is a bit dearer, you have done the hardest bit getting the wheel of the bike.

Re: BMW F800GS rear bearing failure
If they are available at reasonable prices replace the spacers as well, they get worn and allow water through to the bearing and eventually the bearing seal gives up and allows the water into the balls, bit like an old set of leggings

So feel like setting fire to the bloody BMW. Wish I never bought it. The bearing disintegrated on exit leaving the shell firmly in place. How the hell do I get that out

How many kms on the bearings, just out of interest?
With the new ones prise off the seal with a tiny screwdriver ........( a Stanley knife blade can snap the point off ) and grease, as a tip if you don't know.
I did that with mine and I've now got nearly 60,000kms on my last ones....they come from the factory IMO with not enough grease...27,000kms with original Yamaha ones.....60K with greased SKF there after....go figure.
I'l change mine out come the next tyre change in a couple of weeks...for all the price of them.

Will It Buff Out?
