So I've managed to break the lower part of my screen (2 part isotta) and looking at about £200 to replace it but I've got a sign shop at the bottom of the road and I've had various bits of offcut sheet to make/repair easy stuff but I wondered if anyone's had success with heating and shaping something like this
in an uncontrolled environment ie the shed. If it was the top part it would be relatively straightforward but the lowers got all the curves/form?
Any advice appreciated..even if it's give it a miss and get your wallet out (thumbs)
Anyone made their own screen or work with perspex/acrylic?

Hi Al (thumbs) .
I've made a few screen spoilers from macrolon, acrylic and shaped them in various curves by heating them up gently and securing them in the required shape untill cold.
hope this helps.

Your probably going to have to make a wooden former, lay the sheet over it and then heat its up so it forms to the shape.Much like they do in that U.S. fish tank reality series Tanked.

or, get the "glue" for acrylic. see you tube how it works, cost peanuts and it actually works great - it thats a clean break without dirt. two parts must be perfectly aligned. if for nothing else, it will retain its shape so you can bend new perspex around it to exact shape (thumbs)

You can use the original acrylic to make a plaster mould, a male and female makes it easier but not necessary and heat it carefully with a hot air gun. If you have a friendly t shirt printer close by a heat press works well.

Re: Anyone made their own screen or work with perspex/acrylic?
In the 1970's when I needed a bike to get back on the road, a mate gave me his old BSA Bantam in bits as he was moving down south.
Rebuilt it, but needed a screen so I bought a sheet of perspex and used a fan heater to shape it over my knee, worked perfectly.

Thanks for all the replies Gents appreciated looks like it's worth a go rather than a non starter i'll source an offcut or 2  and see how I go (thumbs)

Overheat with a heat gun and the plastic surface wrinkles so be careful. I have used an electric halogen hob with some success, wife now has an induction hob so have to use the heat gun.
