XT660R Cuts Out

Post by Nigel Newman »

Hi, my 04 XT660R has just randomly cut out a couple of times whilst I've been riding it ! I haven't stalled it or knocked the engine cut-out switch, it's just cut out ! It starts fine again straight away but it's just annoying as well as being a little bit dangerous !!
Has anybody else had this problem or know of a possible reason why it's doing it & of course I'm looking for a solution to it ?
Thanks
Nigel.

Raising the tick over speed to roughly 1500rpm helps.
It can be measured via the dash diagnosis mode.

As Cozi says - 1,500RPM idle.

Also, have a read of these threads on xt660.com that is a wealth of info on this very topic:

The bible of fueling issues:http://www.xt660.com/showthread.php?t=23042

With respect to the first topic above, the TPS (throttle position sensor) was a recall item on the 2004 model. It may be worth taking it to a dealer who can confirm that this has been done. The thread above notes it is a free recall.

The CO settings are managed through the dash and with a little googling, you can find the owners manual which demonstrates how to alter these values.

Good luck!
