14 plate s10 side stand /mirrors wee prep for Norway ,

Post by boatman »

Hi folks
Just wondered if anyone has been here already
I have a 14 plate S10 which has what looks like an alloy side stand.
Stand is too long ,when bike is loaded it's got nearly no " lean" and it will fall over in due course when I am touring.
Normally with a steel stand I would disconnect battery, hack some bits off till I get the right length then weld a new big plate on the bottom. Not so easy with what looks like an ally forging/ casting .
Is there aftermarket adjustable ? Or a steel one available, or does anyone had a fix.
Also wondering if anyone has replaced the standard mirrors, ( look swish ,but not a very good view IMHO) ?

You could just buy a steel stand from a pre 2014 model and then do what you want with it....but....., your real problem is the loading.
If your bike sinks that low you need a stronger spring. I do not know if you have ES, but the supplied shocks are designed for a 75kg son of Nippon riding alone with a helium balloon hanging off the carrier rack!
I had to change mine for the same reason.

Hi Ray it is indeed te esa version , it's my firs foray into big Yamaha,s as I have had 5 Gs GSA,s .
On the BM it works out of the box ,rack it up and fling the kit on -- job done, but they are getting to be very expensive toys :( so I thought I would try one of these S10 ,s. Goes well brake well handles not to bad , this UN has had the Hilltopped Magic carried out and it is NOT a slow bike :woohoo:

Do`nt have a problem with the stand on mine except for the time I had to park it the wrong way on a slope, fine until I put F off heavy chain on pillion after unlocking and it slowly toppled over with me frantically trying to hold it with a bungee I grabbed hold off, they don`t half stretch

I have heard the mirrors from the pre 14 model are better, have a trawl on ebay.Remember though all right hand Yamaha mirrors have a left hand thread.

I certainly don't rate the current pair ,, built for appearance rather than function

The previous owner of my 2012 S10 put the later angular mirrors on my bike but i have recently got a pair of the earlier rounded type which i've yet to fit but just looking at them they seem bigger.

They are moving towards pushbikes now but they did a good job servicing my Yacugar shock and they are an Ohlins specialist. If they cannot help, they may know where you can get it uprated.

Having said that, can you not change the load settings like the GSA and preload the spring from the dash ?
