After being steered away from welding myself a stainless steel water tank, which I was very excited about, I am considering building a GRP water tank for my boat. Now trying to gather as much info as possible.
Does anybody have experience working with GRP for potable water tanks? There is plenty of info for boys racers with general work. But I am concerned more about safety aspects and what do I need to have the job done.
On the other hand, maybe somebody can recommend somebody whom specialises in GRP and could build me one not too expensively?
p.s. unfortunately there are no off the shelf options in my case, due to the shape of the bow

making your own could go very wrong--in GRP--bacteria living in the surface of the tank (a complete gel coat ON THE INSIDE and so on. A decent stainless guy could knock one up pretty quickly--and "in the business" stainless is used. However, here's a company

contrary to popular belief grp is not waterproof, only the gel coat is impervious to water and that would need to be on the inside of the tank , even a pinhole in the gel will leak.I would go for stainless,plastic or bags..

I have done enough sailing and absolutely hate the taste of water that comes out of GRP or neoprene bag/tanks. Stainless is the only way to go. Don't even think about it. Plastic tanks are ok, used in housing, but not GRP unless its GRP sections where the gel coat is on the inside, used in big size industrial water tanks.
