Fuel pipe

Post by Timcat »

Changed the fuel lines on the 690, the main feed is 8mm so ordered some new 8mm pipe & jubilee clips but it weeps from the clips. The clips are the right size & done up tight so my question is are there fuel injection specific hoses & clips? If so where's best to get them from?

I have no idea. But I am curious why you had to change them.

Jubilee clips are rubbish because they do not allow an even clamping pressure due to the flat section under the screw, this leaves the possibility of air being sucked in or feul to leak out. There are specific feul pipe clips which are much better, look on eBay or your local motor factor.

Basically mate I've put a Golan fuel filter on & noticed all the lines had started to become britel and had cracks on.

Yes mate, I've got this type on the fuel taps on the two front tanks. Everything with the 6mm bore is fine it's the 8mm from the fuel pump onward that's the problem I'm guessing the new pipe I've bought is expanding under pressure & as said the clips I've got don't help. Been doing some reading & there's a difference between injection and non injection fuel line.... found a place that specialise in hose & clips just so will give them a call after Christmas.
Have a good one mate....

Ordinary fuel line isn't designed for fuel injection systems and will fail fairly quickly. The proper fi fuel lines are reinforced to withstand the pump pressure

You need pipe for fuel injection and you need to know the working pressure of the fuel pump as opposed to the injectors because there will be a fuel pressure regulator to reduce the pressure for the injectors. My own bike uses an 8mm inside diameter/13mm diameter.

You also need those clips.

As a benchmark the fuel pump test pressure for my triumph is 3bar, with a possibility of it being slightly higher

Thanks for all the informative responses on this, the 690 fuel pump kicks out 3.3-3.7 bar so now have the information for the suppliers & thinking of using O clips & the clips above for the 3no fuel taps..
