I guess it must have cracked earlier and then let go on the motorway. Where had he been, had he been off road?
There are a number of pictures of similar failures on the web, both LC's and earlier models but I've yet to see similar with Teneres or Explorers.
I've got an LC which has been faultless so far but it's a bit worrying.
