I've done more than 250,000 miles on TKC80s on 1200GS, 1200GSA, 650GS twins, XR400, Tenere and KTM 690. Happy with onroad and wet handling. Also happy with wear rate—I managed Senegal and back on one set, but you need to relax and ride gently to get that sort of mileage.
Currently on TKC80s on a Tenere and a KTM 690, Michelin Deserts and mousses on another KTM 690.

Re: continental tkc80 twinduro
thanks tim, thats the answer i was hoping for, sounds like you have certainly field tested these tyres
Re: continental tkc80 twinduro
Front tyre wears unevenly and poor mileage from the rear. I like the Mitas E09 rear with an MT21 front which Works well on an off road.
Re: continental tkc80 twinduro
My experience of the TKC80 is that they are a great grippy tyre on the front of a bike, lightweight or heavyweight, but they will start to scallop after 5-7K miles. On the rear, my Vara and Transalps both ate them in around 3K. I now use the K60 on the rear and TKC80 on the front for my all rounder combi. lightweight bike or the big girl.
The TKC80 will buzz on the road around 15-25mph on a lot of bikes, this is very disconcerting initially, but you do get used to it...

Re: continental tkc80 twinduro
I've done over 8k miles on the front with my TKC80s on my mk3 peg. the rear became overdone after 6k miles but I was running it a little low on pressure for a rather over zealous 2 day trip across Spain.
I think they are a fantastic tyre, perfect for mainly road but occasional forays into hard off road stuff. They won't do brilliant mileage but is that really to be expected for such a bold shape.
Moving from a pretend off road tyre to the TKC80s suddenly makes you think the headstock is unscrewed but you soon get used to it, you tend to get a little more supa moto in the corners than fireblade tasitic!
The cost is good, they are easy to get on and off and they do everything proficiently, but nothing really well. Generally what you want for a proper adventure bike!

Riding style is a major factor in tyre wear, 2k miles to the limit with the rear TKC80 on my Varadero, 3k on my Africa Twin. love the tyres but too expensive for road riding.
I'm going to try the Anakee wilds on my new Africa twin this summer, tread looks good, hopefully wear will be good.

The BMW off road school fit Karoo3's exclusively to the 1200, 800 and 650.dibbs wrote:Ive been using Karoo 3's and found them good, done about 3000. and front is fine and reckon the rear has about another 1000 miles left on it. id say about 60/40 tyre (thumbs)
I swapped from TCK'80s to Karoo3's. Much better (no typical tck80 weave) on the road and they clear mud quickly and grip well off road.
