Armchair mechanics wanted, DRZ specialist may also....

Post by Stewie »

.....contribute B)

Here's the synopsis, the bike is a DRZ400s W/2000 model. Went to start it, nothing! just turned over, managed to bump start it and the bike wouldn't idle.

The problem now is the bike will start, but when it gets warm and the revs are below 2000/1800 it just bogs out, and then won't start for another 20 minutes.

Here's what I've tried so far.
Changed the plug
Checked the spark
Changed the fuel
Cleaned the carb
Checked manifold rubbers
Replaced the carb
Re-set the ignition advance on carb
Checked valve clearances
Checked cam chain / tensioner
Replaced CDI unit

Edit - also checked the compression.
- runs smooth, sounds right just dies at idle rpm when warm.

Rapidly running out of ideas :S and money  . So any thoughts greatly appreciated (thumbs)

If I had done all that with no joy
I'd be looking at loss of compression (rings/valves)

Have you had the sides off? Is the engine sounding alright when its running?
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

When it's running the engine is as smooth as you like, it just won't idle when warm/hot :(
