Anyone Removed a.b.s. from their KTM 990 ADVENTURE

Post by Beepee »

Rear brake failure again today. That's x4 now, twice dragging and twice with nothing at the pedal.
I'll post pictures when I'm on the laptop.

Anyone else had rear brake issues on their KTM ?

Pop onto the Orange Crush forum on AdvRider, loads of people on there have removed their ABS. Mine doesn't have it fortunately but I've heard it's not the best even when working properly.

Yes, I thought there'd be a thread there. I'll put my beer goggles on and have a look.

Tried not to use words like catastrophic and failure ! :)

Best not to rely on ABS, not needed on an Adventure bike in my opinion :P

That's been my intention, never liked it and don't want any half arsed measure to remove. The plumbing is coming oot as well if I can.
Nearly hit a deer on the Sorn rd last week, hard on the brakes and kept going, just as well Bambi swerved.

To be gs riders have not been with out their problems of late? ;-)
Never had any problems with my abs to be honest. Seems to work fine and is a godsend at times in the mud. You can always switch it off.

I'm not looking for advice whether you need it or not, I don't need any debates why I should have it, I'm really not interested. The main dilemma when I was buying the bike was the amount of electronics, fuel injection, a.b.s. digi dash, and the like, electronic ignition I can cope with.

I've had all sorts of bikes for near 40 years, I've NEVER had as many issues with brakes as this, and it's the rear !
So, I now need a rear disc, caliper brake pads and probably a tweak on the brake pipes.
