KTM ADVENTURE 990 SCREEN..................pardon ?

Post by Beepee »

Right, I've added to it with a Wunderlich gadget, I've modded it dropping the gadget down to give a mra type screen, I've now hacked a letterbox out to let clean air through to cancel the wind buffeting, it doesn't !

Question, what have you guys done or use to reduce the wind roar you get from the standard adventure screen on the big KaTooM ?

Anyone selling a touring screen, are they worth it or just as bad ?
I've recently seen a Cee Baileys screen fitted complete with NACA duct but looks a bit tall aesthetically.
What ya got guys n girls it's riding me nuts ?

I've took 50mm off the top. helps alot. still not perfect. touring screen was like having your head in a tumble dryer. you can get screens at all heights. might be worth chopping one about then buying one the right hight.

Hi. I have the touring screen on mine and seems to work well for me.
To be fair it was fitted when i got the bike so couldn't say if better than a standard one. Am 6ft tall and keeps the wind off me on motorways when winding it up a bit.
Always get buffeting due to the size and type of bike.
Especially side winds as its like a big sail!

Touring screen gives me bad vibes so that my teeth chatter when I am riding above 50mph....almost sold the bike because of it.

The standard screen is better but my head is in full blast yet clen air. Means less teeth chatter bit above 40 mph I must have the visor down.

I have tried standard...
RAD
Cee Baileys
Touring screen
Standard with lamina lip
Aeroflow with winglets
Ride the bike and stand up... That's how it was designed to be ridden most of the time.. Clean air no buffeting.

The best for me........

Standard with lamina lip touring. The rest of the time I just cut 4" of the screen.

I think the turbulence is caused by 'dirty' air being drawn into the low-pressure area behind the screen from around the bottom of the lower fork yoke. That's why the shape of the screen itself makes little difference.

Rig up some kind off baffle there and see if it makes a difference. You've got the 4 tapped holes in the yoke to attach it to.

Re: buffeting, a LOT depends on your height.

For long distance, I use the touring screen, but for buffeting purposes, it just keeps all the bugs off my visor.

Otherwise (for me), I find the Rally Raid screen deflects a lot of air - not the prettiest (rear of screen is rough finished), but it dies work.

CE Bailey thing is just plain fugly

SD mirrors can make a difference, though personally, I like the folding enduro mirrors (not as tall as the Mickey mouse ears)
KTM 1290 Super Adventure T - Power!
KTM 690 Enduro R - lighter to pick up
Husqvarna Svartpilen 401 - Fun.

Even our dogs are orange.

I tried a few different screens on my 950 ADV with little success....

Then I fitted Super Duke mirrors and it bloody transformed it!! (thumbs)

One of the first things I did was change the mickey mouse mirrors, the wind buffet im talking about is the dirty air, when you look at most bikes they've got a gap in the screen at the bottom, the new super adventure has 2 screens with gaps and shapes n stuff.

I tried the air dam that bolts to the bottom fork clamp, no difference and had to remove it when I fitted the led light kit.

So, options then......

1 Tinnutis
2 standard screen with lip
3 HUGE cee baileys with naca duct
4 ktm touring screen
5 Rade with crap inside finish that I couldn't cope with
6 cut the standard screen down and be annoyed with the cut mod
7 go back to my monster 1100s with cockpit screen !

Have I missed anything ?
