your bike your choice,i would throw that motor in the scrap bin.
all of that metal is distributed in every oil gallery and bearing,
at least the motor wants stripping and cleaning.
if you dont,it may well do it all again :pinch:

If I didn't say it'll be stripped/cleaned I meant to

I would go for another engine but the only one I saw the was in Germany, there's nothing about apart from the odd (very odd) DR lump and I'd need to use one carb...Could be done though

I don't think so, the guy that had it used it daily till about a month ago with no problems at all as I've got receipts from the end of Dec for a service inc oil/filter change, plugs, cleaning brakes, new head bearings for 335 quid and a battery last summer so it's seemingly been going fine.

The seller said he was coming back from work and it just cut out and it's the last it ran till I got it, I had to jump it from the car then after a few minutes saw the smoke ect and that's that.

Like I said above, I'll strip it and take it from there

I think the cause looks like the stripped gear. Why they would put a plastic gear on something as important as an oil pump is beyond me. I suppose the argument may be the best lubricated and therefore the most free running part of an engine is the oil pump itself  It does seem a bit penny pinching though.

The next question is why the gear shredded. Maybe something got into the pump to stop it. In the maintenance world we always look to the last thing that was done (ie oil change in Dec etc). A complete strip and clean is essential, and I would recommend some time looking for the cause of the fault so it doesn't happen again.

Good luck. Keep us updated :)
