hand operated rear brake, for KTM 690....help

Post by zimtim »

My nephew in South Africa has a KTM enduro 690. And like most youngsters like to pop the odd wheelie. Now he is quite good so his dad tells me, however the young lad is worried about flipping the bike, and operating the brake mid wheelie is proving awkward. So he is after one of those small hand brake that fit to the handle bars.
So where can I get one and what are the options open to us and does anyone have any experience of the various options available.

Any help would be gratefully received

Thanks

Quite a few people fit them on race bikes so look on a few sites selling race kit but the easy answer is to hook a higher gear as fast as he can.

I can't see how selecting a higher gear (if you where quick enough) would prevent one falling over backwards doing a wheelie.

Rekluse, hard to get used to though, awkward to use clutch, unless you fit the the whole rekluse kit.

You've got more control in higher gears. Nobody in their right mind tries to keep a wheelie going in 1st gear but get it into 3rd and you've usually got enough speed to make the bike easier to control but the revs are lower and the bike won't react as quickly to the throttle.

Why not? Speed wheelies are easy,1 mile in 1st gear is real skill.
