This is really bad news for owners of older bikes riding into London
Re: This is really bad news for owners of older bikes riding into London
It's ok, Jonny, my "London" statement was only tongue-in-cheek. I know only too well that councils are very happy to appropriate any hare-brained scheme that they see as a money-spinner. Cardiff council has already admitted to millions in losses, and rumours abound of cutting services, closing all libraries etc.
Anything claiming "green" credentials (even when based on nothing but fluff) will appeal to the bunny-huggers ..... so we all need to be very worried by Boris's thoughts!

Just reading a post on ebikes on a cycle forum and instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd resurrect this one. It's hard to believe that next year bikes before 2007 will be effectively banned.......then two years later out as far as the north circular.

It's obvious that the current regime in London and TfL doesn't want powered two-wheelers in the capital. People would abandon buses and railways, and then how would the huge subsidies paid to TfL be justified.redbikejohn wrote: ↑Sun Aug 19, 2018 6:14 pm Just reading a post on ebikes on a cycle forum and instead of starting a new thread I thought I'd resurrect this one. There is no technical justification, it is just another ruse to get money out of people.
These people work for us, you need to get together and take action against them, we are too laid back in the UK, imagin if this was France.

Yes and not just Paris, we're going to see more and more of this rolled out.

Now, here's an irony....
I've got a 950 KTM Adventure, with the standard exhausts and catalytic converters in place.
My neighbour has a later model 990 KTM Adventure, fitted with a KTM approved and type approved 'accessory' exhaust system which has no catalysts.
My bike produces less emissions than his does. My bike is banned from London and his isn't.
If I ever go to London, I think I'll just borrow his number plate.

My xt660z get better mileage and uses less space than the guy on shift with me's car. But as it has a tiny battery good enough for nothing but does help with pulling away he pay zero tax?! People in power have always hated bikes.

As said, it's just another tax, or taxes if you have to buy a newer bike

A colleague of mine has a plug-in hybrid with a petrol engine. It does 35 mpg. My 1.6 petrol Focus does 38 mpg. His car is 'greener' than mine, apparently, because it lugs around an electric traction motor and a heavy battery that go flat after about 20 miles.redbikejohn wrote: ↑Tue Aug 21, 2018 12:20 pm My xt660z get better mileage and uses less space than the guy on shift with me's car.
