Chinese TOURANCES................any good??

Post by johnnyboxer »

Seems all the original spec Tourances are now made in China & not the Fatherland

Are they ok, grip wise in the dry & more importantly the wet :)

Jap Dunlops from yesteryear put the fear of god on me, still after 30 years

Are the China Tourances ok ???

Let's have your views :)

Many of the major tyre companies now manufacture products in China.
Pirelli, Metzler parent company, have a massive plant there.
Any of those tyres that are brought into UK should be suitable for our conditions.

The worry is when the Chinese start copying them, it's happened before with tyres and we all know about cheap copies from there.

Are you using them?

Been coming in this spring, as opposed to previously from the German factory

Argh

Had a new pr of Tourance fitted in Split Croatia and said to my travelling mate that they looked, sounded and felt a bit different. Seemed to make a whirring noise at certain speeds. Wasn't so confident on them because of this but thought I was just being a silly bugger about it. But, now that I'm laid up in Montenegro after coming off on wet off camber you're question has got me thinking ? If they were a contributory factor I have no way of proving that but I wish I'd know about the 'Chinese' factor before I requested Tourances ( they have always been a great match for my bike and never let me down, not even in places like the Strada Florida or sodden Scottish fire roads, so for them to now give on wet tar and your question, well...)
For note
This pr had no manufacturing baubles on main tread surface and periodic seem residue in tread gullies. When I saw this I said to my mate " hope these bloody things aren't hooky from China or somewhere..." :)

Interesting Storm, check the sidewall (brake side on rear) and it'll tell you were they are made - Germany or China

Most users are reporting grip similar in wet and dry, but they wear down a lot quicker and mileage isn't as good anymore

I've got a pair of German Tourances with about 250 miles on them sitting at home so I'll hang onto them and flog them at a vastly inflated price in a year or two

 Had a new rear tourance on recently - now got about 700 miles on it, was considering other options [ as this one is chinese] but as there is plenty of life left in the front I decidede to give it a go. Have to say it seems fine. Only doubt I had was doing silly speed fully loaded when the back started a bit of a shake but as I say - silly speed and I would suspect the topbox aerodynamics. Otherwise grip has seemed fine.

I have moved to annakee 3 after using tourance for years.

Fitted a Chinese tourance and barely got 4,500 miles on the rear.

The annakee has done 6,000 and barely started to square off. And the grip has been great thus far.

Wouldn't go back to tourance.
