My GF very kindly bought me a Drift HD 1080P for my birthday.
As it came without an SD card I popped out to Maplins and got
a 32GB Class 10 SD Card for it.
So finally (after 3 weeks of waiting for delivery) we could try the camera.
Found that at 1080 resolution, sound only audible at beginning of video clip and then muted.
So rang the company we purchased the camera from, and was told we would get a
call back. Sure enough, about an hour later a chap rang us back and said they
don't really know much about this camera, so I should ring another company
who apparently had more expertise. So I rang this other company and surprisingly
they were extremely helpful considering it wasn't them that sold us the camera.
They said the Class 10 SD Card was too much for the camera and that I could try
fitting a Class 4 or Class 6 SD Card. So another trip to Maplins this morning
and another £25 for another SD Card.
Unfortunately, same problem as before with sound at 1080 resolution. However, sound
works fine at 720 resolution.
At this point I am considering sending the camera back. Is there anything I am
doing wrong? Anyone on here with experience of the Drift HD 1080p ?

I have the same camera and I have fitted a class 10 32g card and have had no problems at all. The only thing I have found is if you film in 1080, it takes up a huge amount of memory (50 mins of film and about 10 GB but same thing in 720 and about 2.5 GB)

Can't really help with the technicalities as have never had a problem with mine.
Sound is fine re. 1080. No problems at all.
Just bunged a 32gb card in it on day one and off we went.

Re: Drift HD1080P Help please
I'm starting to think its a problem with the computer as opposed to any problem with the camera. Got some footage on the bike today, and get different results plaving the footage on different pieces of software. There is sound but its out of synch with the video.
Linux on the laptop - so quite likely to be something needs updating. Will borrow a
windows laptop off someone later to see if that makes a difference. The video quality
is superb though

Re: Drift HD1080P Help please
I do not have a DRIFT but do have a lot of experience with PV cameras.
The SD card with class 10 or less, will not have any effect on the audio recording it just means that the class 10 card will have a faster write time and with less frame drop outs, so forget about the card. (In fact DRIFT recommend class 10)
To test the SD card place it in your MAC and record a video from YouTube/audio file onto it then play it back if it is ok then it proves there is a problem with camera not the card.
Next thing is to reformat the SD card just incase there is something on it that is causing problems. If you can reformat it directly through the camera do it that way.
Check all the settings on the camera and try a lower quality recording and that the audio is being recorded in ACC not AVI. Try recording at 720P video with Audio recorded in ACC if it is OK then try this_
Taken from the manual
1.Reset Default Settings
To restore the factory camera settings,
highlight ‘Reset Settings’ from the
Camera Settings menu and press
ACTION, then confirm.
2. Firmware
Selecting ‘Firmware Version’ from the
Camera Settings menu will display the
camera’s current firmware version.
For more details about updating
firmware, (see p17)
Last thing to try is to see if it has the most up to date firmware update installed the manual will guide you through this. If there is newer version of firmware available then download it.
As you say it works OK in 720P it shows that the camera and your PC is working fine so it must be something wrong in the camera set up at 1080P which is probably a set up or firmware error.
If still no go then try to return it for an exchange

Thx RoadTrekker - you say "that the audio is being recorded in ACC not AVI"...
not sure that theres a menu option that allows that to be tweaked/changed.
All I can say is that that the vids are saved as *.MOV

Does the sound work when you play back the video on the camera itself? That would rule out the camera and point towards your pc

Think its a "linux" issue on the PC. I converted the .MOV files from the camera toGodspeed wrote:Does the sound work when you play back the video on the camera itself? That would rule out the camera and point towards your pc
MP4 and the MP4's play perfectly They also take up a fraction of the disk space
