I have recently aquired a
TTR600 Belgarda, Ohlins rear shock, kickstart, 2001,
Does anyone know where I can get a shorter rear spring?
(There is no lowering kit available, it seems)
I am about 14 stone, and ride like I only just seen a bike for the first time, on very timid trails B) )
thanks for any help
Gary

Re: springtime
Hi Gary
You've got premium suspension on that bike so various springs etc should be available.
First just try just backing the preload off so it settles further down the travel when you sit on it.
Give these a call for advice:

In Bristol, so not far away from you.

Re: springtime
well .. phoned David Lambeth .. he reckons just get a shorter spring.
phoned JHS Racing .. they would charge basically, £100 per 10mm up tp 35 mm max but not doing the linkage, just the springs/ forks etc.
phoned a local engineering company .. will see if they can make some longer dogbones

Re: springtime
thanks for the reply, Will ..... apparently the ends of the spring have to have a closed ring end .. otherwise the sharp cut end will be poking about ....unless there is a way to fix it ?

Re: springtime
Cutting the spring makes the suspension stiffer, so the actual 'real world' loss in height will be minimal.
You also have to swage the end of the spring to restore the 'flat end' or it will break, then re-temper it.
Shockingly the coil springs on European cars are not swaged, which is why they are so prone to breakage...everyone conveniently blames speed humps, but really it's cheap design.
Not so funny when the broke spring rips the inner sidewall out of your front tyre.
