I am a 5' 9" shorty. I am really tempted to buy a GS 1150 (I cannot afford a good GS 1200) but I am a bit concerned about the height of the seat.
Can anyone advise me:
[ul]
[li]Does any manufacturer make a shorter seat for the 1150? How much lower?[/li]
[li]Are seats for the 1200 usable on the 1150?[/li]
[li]Are there any customisers who would lower the supplied seat?[/li]
[li]Are there any 5' 9" owners who care to offer any advice?[/li]
[/ul]
Many thanks
Badsworth

Re: BMW GS Seats
I am 5'10"and ride a 1100 gs, it is a little stretch especialy with luggage but after 10 years have got use to it. From what i can gather, there are build qualities with the newer bikes, check things like gearbox and fd wear. I dont think the seats are the same on the 12. Check with touratech, i think they did a lower seat, best thing is to test ride one.
Re: BMW GS Seats
Hi, I am 5' 7" and ride a 1200gs in standard form it was to tall, rideable but I ended up putting a lower seat on, sorry to say this was better but still to tall as when coming to lights it still caused me to do a shuffle from one foot to another. I ended up putting HYPERPRO springs on, great solution and 2 years on love the bike covering many miles. I appreciate that you are looking for an 1150 but thought you could look at a shorter spring solution ?
Re: BMW GS Seats
At 5' 9" you shouldn't have any real problem with a standard seat on a GS1150
If you do need it lower, then the cheapest option would be to take it & get it lowered an inch & maybe narrowed down at the top by a seat upholstery specialist.
Kahedo (Touratech) do one 3cm lower than standard

But, like I said, you should be fine - I'm 5' 7" & ride a 1200GSA which is 5cm higher than a standard 1200GS, with everything standard apart from a BMW low seat (started off with a kahedo extra low, but it was very hard on my *rse ) & even carry my 5' 10" son on pillion plus full camping kit without any real problems.
I've been over once in 10K miles due to not getting my foot down
If I was you, I certainly wouldn't be considering any expensive suspension mods

Re: BMW GS Seats
I think an early 1200 would be cheaper than a good condition 1150!
Also, the 1200 seat is lower than the 1150 & their is also a low seat option.
My standard 1200 seat is in it's high position & despite being 6' 3" I only have a 32" inside leg & both feet sit flat on the ground.
That means the low seat would be ok for a 30" inside leg.
Should be a shed load of 1200s on the market soon when the wannabees get their new WC 1200s.

Re: BMW GS Seats
Well at 5 ft 11 (31 inside leg ) the GS is fine ,The seat can also be adjusted up or down slightly as there are 3 different postions it clips into so if your trying a bike out check what height the seat is set at .
