Re: bike economics ie MPG???
Since I changed the air filter on my W reg F650GS, with 48,500 miles showing, the average fuel consumption has gone from about 55mpg to about 72mpg. A few runs of more than the 5 miles each way commute have helped too

This may put a few things into perspective.
Went to the Hiss (Spanish Pyrenees)in May & as i'd just returned from a vintage rally in the Picos mountains on an R80st decided to trail the off roader down & have a rest from the long distance biking stuff.
This was the rigg I used:-
The 1.4 diesel Renault Modus averaged 58mpg (600mp tank full) cruising @ 65-75 over the 1900 mile return trip.
The CCM 644 averaged 62mpg (170mp tank full)over 700 fairly quick miles on & off road on TKC21's.
With fuel prices becoming astronomic this I can afford & eat well.
Big heavyweight (150kg's +) trailies with sub 40mpg performances are for me becoming a Big no no!
Brian.

Re: bike economics ie MPG???
Big time! I would love one of those Dutch diesel bikes but the price negates fuel savings for many, many year. My little Opel Combo van averages 55mpg, my old 2l Citroen Xsara did 60 so it's a bit annoying.
I was nearly going to buy another Blackbird recently to hack about in but then remembered my old one only did 35-40mpg so that finished that.
I'm already spending over 200 euros a month on fuel just getting to work, which to me is crazy, and is nothing compared to some people I know who are well over 500, it's getting very near the stage where they'd be better off not working.
If i went out for a weekend blast it could easily be another 60 euros on top, it's no wonder I've hardly managed any biking this year. A decade ago I'd average at least 500 miles a weekend every weekend, just can't afford it anymore.

Re: bike economics ie MPG???
I once rode around Britain as part of a team trying to beat the around Britain economy run.
We did it, and as far as I know the record still stands. We achieved 203mpg with an average speed of 45mph. We did it on an Enfield Diesel bike.
We lost the bike in a fire at the National motorcycle museum.

Couple of small bikes I use for green laning around Essex & Herts.
We usually do about 90 miles each ride out with 70 miles off tarmac.
Beamish Suzuki (250cc 2 stroke) gives 45 mpg.
Beta Alp 200 4T (200cc suzuki 4 stroke) gives 95 mpg.

Re: bike economics ie MPG???
Was out on a club run today which was admitedly quite slow so I decided to see how economical I could get. Did 120 miles and averaged 81mpg on an 800GS :woohoo:
Was pretty boring tho

Re: bike economics ie MPG???
I'm like you in that it's the tank range that gets my attention and on my 250EXC that's just about 50 miles to reserve! I have to carry a small bottle of 2 stroke oil wherever I go and if I'm using the trailer I keep 10 litres of fuel already mixed so I can top up whenever I get near my starting point. I keep promising myself a bigger tank but never get round to actually buying oneherman wrote:Must admit I have never taken stock of mpg on bikes in the last 30 odd years only miles between fill ups on the trip meter which dictates whether I need to carry extra fuel. Bet my 200 has the worst mpg tho
