I have a friend who has worked on BMWs for years. Recently I asked him about the Ks and how often he has worked on the engines/cylinder heads. Told me he has never had to take a head off a K for maintenance reasons. The only time he has had to do it was to repair accident damage. Speaks for itself. They will go well over 100,000 miles without a bother. The only two things to watch on the K engines are the oil/water pumps and check out the valve clearances. They don't often need adjustment, they use the shims. Keep an eye on the cam chain tensioner which is vey easy to get at.

Your work at the final drive and the change of swing arm will have dealt with the transmission items so you should have a really good reliable bike after it.

On the other forum there are some engineering shops that replace just the spline section of the driveshaft [by welding it] so extending it may be an option.

There is a mod what was it again Mr 92kk...????

Nice to hear encouraging words,thanks....

Think I've cracked the drive shaft extension problem, more on that later but it does involve welding..!!

What will be interesting is the reaction to my very bespoke panniers that are being constructed at present, eyebrows will be raised...!!!!

Just spotted this post.

The water pump on earlier Ks had a nut on the impeller. When you go to take it off.......it breaks so you need to replace the shaft with a newer type that takes a bolt instead. Not a real issue if doing the full monty as I was. At that age is generally considered that the shaft will need replacing anyway. I will have to ask my friend about the K75 but I seem to be bumping into more K75s these days and considering acquiring one. I have got so used to the Ks and their ways and many parts are interchangeable. Once a few issues that are generally age related are sorted they are like a new bike.

I've had to go cast rear with a 3:1 4 stud bevel box on my old ST to give me a sensible motorway top gear.
I just could not live with the standard 3.36:1 bevel drive ratio & the engine reving its nuts off @ 70+.
Could not think of a way to go 4 stud 18" spoked & Drum.
If I could find a 4 stud 17" spoked & Drum I'd re-rim it with an 18"

Hello Picos, what you want to achieve is possible for sure, do some more digging but it does involve lots of research
