A light in the dark

Post by ErikGustav2 »

Two days ago ate at a restaurant, where I managed to get coffee and two sandwiches. He didn't have bread in the restaurant, but went around the corner to get it. He was very nice and said that I could knock on the door, if it wasn't open.

Today, two days later I got there at 8. It was closed. Knock... he opened. The family sat and ate their breakfast. But he fixed coffee and sandwich for me. They would be open around 11 to 14 for lunch. And before that, working to prepare the lunch.

When they were done with their own breakfast.,, he sat down and we talked. He asked about me, Sweden, my trip, my motorcycle.... And he told me about a trip by car that his family made in the mountains of Peru. Where they slept in the car and had kitchen equipment with them.. He told about beautiful places and more. We talked so much that he had to remind me to pay.

These are ordinary friendly people, apart from a small group of vandals on the streets.

It was the restaurant that say vegetariano. In a picture already shown.

I will go there again. both for breakfast and lunch

Update

Post by ErikGustav2 »

The situation is bad.
Stuck in the middle of Juliaca for one week.
And things are going from bad to worse.
No end is visible.

Update

Post by ErikGustav2 »

Things are getting more clear.
Puno is the region most affected by these activities.
The town Juliaca is the most affected town.
The center of the town is the most affected part of the town.

Talk about to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
I checked in at the hotel in Juliaca center Jan 2. And the activities exploded Jan 4th
So I have the worst situation in Peru, just outside my door.

I can not take small roads around the problems. I am in the epicenter.
And I need to get out from the center of the town.
Easier said than done.

They told me already at customs that the 2nd that I could ride on Jan 3rd. But that I had to take a rest day Jan 4th due to planned demonstrations. Fine. I needed a rest day.

=====
Some things had happened last days. I have some photos to publish tomorrow.

=====
Is it possible to upload a video that is not youtube ?
If so, send me a PM and describe how,

I really hope things turn out for the best, not sure of what is known about the situation in general but found this from a google search :-
On 9 January 2023, Peruvian National Police shot at protesters in Juliaca during the 2022–2023 Peruvian political protests. At least 17 were killed and over 100 injured by police responding to protests in the city, with all of the deaths being attributed to gunshot wounds. The massacre was the deadliest day during the series of protests in Peru. Local media criticized the response of national media, saying that events in Juliaca were overlooked.
Journalists covering the massacre were sought to be identified by police intelligence units. After the killing of protesters by the police, looting in Juliaca began into the night, with some authorities seen participating in thefts. The head of the Puno Traffic Safety Police was found with stolen televisions and other goods from a looted store. A total of 40 people were arrested for looting on 10 January. Into the next morning, two officers were detained by unknown individuals; one of the officers reported that about 350 people had captured them and that his partner had disappeared. It was later discovered that his partner was burned alive in his patrol car and had died.
The Boluarte government also issued a three-day curfew on 11 January between 8:00 pm and 4:00 am.

From the above I would take great care regarding taking any photos just in case your intensions are misread, good luck and fingers crossed you will get out of town when this calms down. Very best wishes, Onslowe.
