The bridges in Gagnef
I know that this site is a UK site.
But I will test and share some pictures from Sweden.
And see what happens.
Gagnef is a small municipally in Dalarna/Sweden.
This is where I spend the summers since mid 2020.
The municipality of Gagnef is crossed by two rivers, Österdalälven and Västerdalälven, and it has influenced the district in a special way. The water provided opportunities for fishing and transportation and all the larger villages in the municipality is located along rivers. As the years went by people started to be more dependent on transporting their animals, goods and themselves across the rivers. The first real transportation across the rivers were ferries that were rowed and pulled with ropes across the rivers. during the 1600's many ferries were replaced by floating/pontoon bridges. It is said to have been 11 floating bridges across Dalälven, now there are only these two left in Gagnef and Österfors.
These are the only two floating bridges made of wood that exists in Sweden.
I was resting after a long trip from Portugal to Sweden via Italy. Travel story might come later ) And I studied the map over Gagnef. These rivers and all the bridges. What a nice one day trip that would be to just find these bridges. And enjoy the roads between them.
So that is what I did.
I think that we all have discovered more about our own area, during Covid19 times. And we have realized that you do not have to go far away to find nice places. Wherever you live)
Let's get started with the two pontoon bridges.
(all pictures are reduced in terms of pixels. And compressed with low quality. To save memory and and bandwidth. Size is reduces to 10% of original jpeg camera picture)

Pontoon Bridge in Österfors - 1
This pontoon bridge is for walking and bicycles only.
Even I am sure it would carry a motorcycle without problem.
But is has very sharp ups and downs.
So a good ground clearance would ne needed.
But I was happy with to stroll over the bridge.

Pontoon Bridge in Österfors - 2
Attached to the bridge is a bathing jetty (Correct English ??)
A small jetty, to be used when swimming in the river.
Close to the beach, there is a floating sauna.
You can jump direct from the sauna into the water.
And you can move the sauna to another place on the water.

Pontoon Bridge in Gagnef Kyrkby
A short ride takes us to Gagnef Kyrkby.
Where we find the second pontoon bridge.
This one is open for cars.
The bridge is designed to be able to carry 4 ton.
But in 2015, 60 ton truck tried to pass it. Destroyed the bridge. And the truck end up in the river.
On the north beach, there is a place for boats and a café.
(with very nice view)

Here are links from videos from when I passed the bridge.
(I am not a Youtuber. So it was more a test.
But they are compressed to Youtube format))

Re: The bridges in Gagnef
Great pics. Closest we got to there was Sveg on our way back from the Arctic Circle in Norway about 10 years ago. Lovely country round there - the scenery reminded me of western Alberta in Canada where my brother lives.

Re: The bridges in Gagnef
This stirred-up lovely memories of my time living in Sweden, so thank you.
I lived just down the road from Gagnef for a few years in Sunnansjo, close to Nyhammar and Grangarde.
I spent many a day riding all over the area, mainly on the myriad of forest trails.
Dala Floda was a particular favourite of mine, especially in Winter (when I used my 3 cylinder 2 stroke V Max Snowmobile) when it was stunningly beautiful on the river. We'd also ride our spiked-tyre crossers on the frozen lakes and sometimes quads that we formed tracks for using the village Volvo with a plough blade fitted - like every village there!
Happy days!
