Spent a very good three or four hours with Ian today, in the woods and streams of North Limousin. We tried a stream ascent that I like in Summer, but not so easy in April/May. The main river had deposited all its silt over winter and we got properly stuck in deep quicksand. Took both of us all our energy to get the bikes out....

Yuck, I bet that silt has got in everything.
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

Yep, I couldn't photograph it or video it, because I was somewhat busy, but I got completely covered in sand/water/silt/mud as I pushed and Ian gassed it. There's sand in every pocket and ventilation slit of my Klim Dakars. Problem was you needed power and revs to get any foreward movement but the spinning dug the bike in deeper. The trick was to get a bit of forward movement, raise the bike up a few inches in the silt, then feather the throttle very gently to maintain it without spinning. Took us about 20 minutes to get both bikes 20 yards on to a gravel bank.
Still, it's something to talk about. By next week it'll be embellished into a life and death struggle in a deep canyon fighting a rising tide....

Jet washed the bike and kit today. Sand everywhere! Even behind the dash! It now 'looks' spotless but I bet there's loads of silt in various crevices. A thorough strip down and rebuild is due soon.
The things I put that Beta through... And it still keeps going like a happy labrador.
