the isle of ELBA

Post by moto al »

if your looking for a great place to go i would recommend the isle of ELBA , ITALY only 1 hours ferry trip from piombino to the islands capital portoferraio, great roads , great beaches ,and some fantastic campsites , i always head for the small fishing town of marina di campo ,theres a great campsite on the far site of the bay . CAMPING LA FORCE , i first camped there in 1978 , and to this day its still run by the same lovely friendly family ,the site is right on a beutiful beach , the best to go is may and june, july and august its to busy and very hot.SOME PICS

I'm always impressed by those who take 'the road less traveled', and Al is one of them. Following in the footsteps of Napoleon Bonaparte, no less! (Although his visit was not so voluntary...)

It might be worth a reminder of that lovely Robert Frost poem: 'The Road Not Taken'

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves, no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

i went to Elba in 2017, great place. I'd recommend going September, its not so busy then, but avoid October onwards as most of the cafe's and bar close for the winter.

The FIM Vintage Trophy is being held there this year in October if anyone's in to classic enduro bikes.
