Ride through Pontneddfechan in Wales

Post by UK-Rider »

Having just learned how to convert KML to GPX files, I decided to try the the MCN Brecon Beacons Adventure Bike Heaven ride to Black Desert Training-- https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewe ... 650978&z=9 today for fun.

The ride went well today, even if it was 413 miles all in from home. The route was relatively standard-- I was hoping for more rough single lane in quiet country. This did happen in the last parts of the route-- an unnamed road leaves A4109 Inter-valley Road, and passes through Pontneddfechan. The next six miles or so was the best of the ride, and worth a run if near by. The route also passes thorugh Ystradfellte.

That's the Heol Senni road and it's a good one, there are plenty of decent lanes to be found on those parts if you've got time to explore.

I had a great chat with a hostel host in Snowdownia. When he got his first gps, it took him on all sorts of mid-Wales single lane roads to get to destinations— complete screw up, trips too hours longer, but he was blown away by how many pristine little single lanes there were to explore. I’d like to do more of that!

Don't forget the Gospel Pass
The Gospel Pass is the highest road pass in Wales. It is at the head of the Vale of Ewyas in the Black Mountains of southeast Wales.

.. just an interesting thing … at that layby by the side of the Crai reservoir … I had just parked the bike when a paraglider decended from the skies, and paddled his feet along the tarmac, until he stopped gently in the layby you show, opposite.

luckily there were no car coming along that 50 meter stretch of road at the time.

I was too gobsmacked to take a pic
