Just back from a 12 day ride in South Africa (Western & Eastern Cape). Sharing my ride report in video form, in case it is of interest to others.

Cheers

Looks like a great trip. Thanks for posting.

Did you hire the bikes in Cape Town? Did you do the route and accommodation yourselves? Looked like good mix of gravel and tar - some awesome scenic passes.

I did a trip from CT to Namibia about 6yrs ago. Need to get back. Some great riding to be had down south!

I keep the XT660z out there (my twin brother lives in Wellington) and rented the XT660R from Yamaha Adventure in Somerset West. Cost around £1k for 11 days, including new off road tyres, delivery, route planning input and hire of a sat nav.

The route planning was a mix. I planned a starter in google as i knew mostly where i wanted to go, but got Yamaha Adventure to amend it with their recommendations (i paid for this).

The bike hire worked well, but they made a mess of the route planning process - i’d not used a service like that before and wouldn’t bother again. We then adapted our route quite a bit on the road to suit how we were feeling (we didn’t book accommodation ahead so that was easy).

Accommodation we just used booking.com which was great, plus a couple of specific recommendations.

Happy to share the route if of interest to anyone - just ask.

Sounds like two fun things to look forward to Phil! Whereabouts in RSA?

If you can get to it and haven’t done it Baviaanskloof is an absolute must.
