OVERCAST !!!

Post by PHILinFRANCE »

Well thats how it started ..............................yeh yeh i know stop feckin moaning , but overcast and down to 29c at 11am was nice ;)

I'm in the proccess of planning a TET route for when CB and DMB arrive at the end of August but need to find a start point. i'd studied to TET map which is vague as far as towns are concerned but managed to find a spot that i could fine on gmaps , Saint Cyprien around 90mins due east of us.

Setting of i took the liberty of showing the hiden signs to ours near Payrac;)

Topped up with fuel and set of taking the D673 through Rocamadour , Gramat and Figeac , a great road if you ever venture down here.

Passed the start of one of my rather extreem routes seen behind the Donk not for the faint hearted :o

Here's a pic of some of the kind of terrain i play in ....................it was hard to stay focused on my destination :D

As i'd mentioned 29c was quite comfy but it didn't last , at this point ,maybe half way i reckon it was low 30s and i had my Klim gear on

Dropped down into Figeac and the Pharmacie sign showed 36c ..........................bugger !!! and thats by the river !!! then a diversion out of town , i was in no rush so followed the signs passed Viazac and on and on in totally the wrong direction on the N122 but what a smashing road it turned out to be , in and out of wooded areas wiggleing and winding all over , down side where the odd artics coming the opposite way :o

Had to stop for a piss in the Aveyron....................proper pretty init

And my attempt at an arty farty shot

Image20180731_140352 by Philip Parkinson, on Flickr

Anyway finally headed bck in the right direction after 40mins diversion crossing the River Lot

The old bridge stanchions still stood and had been made into seating areas ......nice

Image20180731_141050 by Philip Parkinson, on Flickr

So took advantage of a rest in the shade

It was stupid hot by now and i'd drunk the last of my "HOT" water so pressed on to my pinpointed RV , finding the start point after several tries and marked it

Image20180731_144858 by Philip Parkinson, on Flickr

But after riding around 500m up it to make sure, dead easy start but nice to get off the tar

Rode round a corner to a dirt junction and notice a cloud of dust ,and on reaching it about to turn and head for home this Belgium TETer turned up on his 1190

Can't remember his name but he was heading north and in his words "this bike is to big and heavy to have proper fun" didn't help being so fecking hot !!!

We went our seperate ways after chatting me plumbing in a differant route home in the now 39c heat , iwas doing my best not to speed but in that heat speed was my friend , then guess who called ?????

My one legged buddy so i pulled over under a bridge and stoppe dby a very apt sign

Nice one Phil. Are you planning on heading south from Aveyron ?

Back in June I did Auvergne down to the Aude on that part of TET. There's some cracking bits , that Belgian guy heading north on his big 1190 is gonna struggle in parts there's a few 'challenging' sections , definitely not big bike friendly...

Heading south in Aveyron there's nothing too challenging but all good fun, was still a bit of mud about in June...

Great work Phil, I bet that sheepskin does nothing to keep you cool!
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.
