Hmm, I'm sure it improves performance. I've not compared or monitored MPG enough to be sure about, also on the trip I was using petrol that varied from 95 to 102 octance! Either way it's not a drastic difference in MPG. I think it was money well spent on the ECU. You're welcome to test the difference in grunt if you like :) .

Fantastic and honest john review. Proves that it can be done easily with a small ring dinger.

Nice one!!

Some people say the engine runs smoother with the ECU, with less vibration. Would you agree with that or is there no difference?

Not sure I can answer that. I changed the ECU not long after the 600 mile run in so I've run the bike a lot harder since the change, from max revs 6k to max revs 8.5k. That said as per my report I ran the bike for 300 miles one day over 8k and didn't notice the vibes.

Interesting, and good to see a proper trip done on a 250cc - great stuff! I remember riding Freiberg to Lake Titisee a while ago - some great biking roads around there. I have a vague recollection that we went to a cuckoo clock museum in a place by the name of Furtwanger (or something similar) :)
