After a week or so of inclement weather I kitted up for a day ride loop to another dead end destination that most will ride by just because you have to come back on yourself. Another handy route if you're based in the region.
Ride out along the D126 direction Col du Soulor to the peak called Gabizos.
Ride on through Arthez d'Asson where the road will follow along by a river
The French resistance, of course operated in the region back in the day, There's a small road side memorial to an inhabitant of the village of Ferrieres who perished during the conflict.
Spring is coming along with the snowmelt....this is normally just a small stream in summer.
Ride up out of Arbéost and climb towards Gabizos.
You'll see this sign a lot in most mountain regions....it means there'll be herds of cows etc soon.
Get to know it...if no animals, there'll be animal dung to slide on coming up.
Look! .....another chapel for you heathens to repent in....you'll have to buy a candle though I'd say.....
As you approach Gabizos you can see the route that takes you to Col d'Aubisque...it's still closed at present ...middle right of image.
Also in the drop off you can see some trails...you can ride down and dander over to the river for a picnic and then ride back up to tarmac.
Gabizos...lines of tumbling snow melt is why the road is still closed.......it's steep above the road and the road blocks with avalanche.
...erm....summit

Drop down the D918 to Arrens......
Arrens from above
You'll head for the old monastery
There's narrow street so keep an eye out for the signs......head for the D105

Ride the poorly surfaced tarmac road to the lake/dam
There's parking at a café
In summer you can ride on to the very end but it's closed due to sliding snow melt danger too
make a U turn when ready and ride back
Ride back in through Arrens....
Look! .....another chapel for you heathens to repent in....you'll have to buy a candle though I'd say.....
Must try and find out what these symbols mean..anyone know?

From here an easy ride to Argeles Gazost for a coffee stop.
..from here to the Lourdes..... past the only nice hotel there.....
Then on home.
If any one needs any input from this region on the French and Spanish side taking in the Navarre and Aragon regions by all means just ask.........happy to share out free trails and routes that I know.

Don't know why you bother rolling your bike out the garage with such dull and uninteresting scenery on your doorstep
Great stuff Keith!
