TET Spain and other bits n bobs

Post by Paul_C »

In light of the other reports here about the TET I thought I'd post a few things about my trip last month.
Initially I was based in Oliana for a week riding the excellent trails in the area. I was with a friend who could only manage 10 days before he had to return to the curse of work.

After a week at the very good Hotel Cal Petit we started following the Vibraction Trans Pyrenees Route west.

The Vibraction route coincides quite a lot with the TET in northern Spain. Note the Vibraction route in Cyan and the TET in red.

Like the routes around Oliana this was excellent. Generally I'd say this was a touch easier going. However, there were a few bits which could catch out the unwary. It was a pity my friend had to go back to work as the landscape changes considerably as you move across the Pyrenees.

This section came as a bit of a surprise...

On finishing the Vibraction route in France I dropped back into Spain and continued westwards along the TET. I missed some bits out when I got a little behind schedule. For example having to fix a puncture when I already had a hotel booked for that evening.

I may have gone wrong here...

All in all a great trip. Most of the trails are easily managed on a suitable bike. Many are very quiet, it wasn't uncommon for me to do a 15 mile trail without seeing any other vehicles. So be well prepared, especially if you're alone.

Nice report and photographs, have done a few bits of the trails, but hope to get back on parts of the TET in France/Spain next year.
Did you follow mainly the TET or the Vibraction RB5.

After the week in Oliana we started the Vibraction 5 just north east of there. Followed the Vibraction to its end although, as the map shows, they coincide a lot. Then cut south to follow the TET to Cervera de Pisuerga. Most of this was planned before the TET was released. I'd already plotted the Vibraction route so it made sense to stay with that.
It wasn't all plain sailing. Fork seal blew, needed a replacement rear tyre (even though I started with a new one), got a puncture in the new one. Plus the occasional misshap.

We did the RB1 in June, and have done parts of the RB5. Bought the road books and gpx files from Vibraction.
Some great trails along the Pyrenees, we were up there on Friday around Bossost.
It's really great how much information is available today on the trails.
Looks a nice hotel you stayed at.
Nice photos around the Bardenas area, some nice trails around there.
Sounds like you had an eventful adventure!! But that's what it's all about.
We had a KTM with a Lithium battery on fire at 2000m on Friday!! So everyone had to use most of their drinking water to cool it down!!
Looking forward to exploring more of the TET in Spain next year.

RB5 is the best trail I've ever done. The temptation to head there for the TET is huge but I've promised myself to explore some other places first.

What did you do about the fork seals?

Great photos :D
And now, Harry, let us step out into the night and pursue that flighty temptress, adventure.

The hotel referred me to the local White Power importer who was in Oliana.

That was lucky. Another great photo!

Wish my workshop looked like that.
