Iron Butt Association : Circuit of Ireland in 24 hours
Re: Iron Butt Association : Circuit of Ireland in 24 hours
Well done sounds like a good challenge so much so I’ve talked myself into doing it for a charity lap of honour so call me crazy if you wish for trying it this time of year but I always liked a challenge.Any info on 24 hour services or anything else to look out for would be really appreciated Cheers

What direction are you planning on going?
Given the time of year I’d really advise doing the west Coast in daylight. It is the most rural section.
Also the north bit is where you will have the 24 hr issues. After Letterkenny you won’t have any (Coleraine but it isn’t exactly on the route).
The section from Northern Ireland down to Cork could be done easily at night / in the dark as it is mostly dual carriageway and motorway.

Thanks for reply. The plan is to get away early from Dublin and go clockwise and hopefully make cork around day light and try to get as far north as I can before night but we will see how it goes can't wait to get going now

Best of luck with it. Over the years have been on all the roads but never done Iron Butt stuff,
I think you're mad but sure there's probably a long list saying that...
Agree on west coast and daylight, its really good advice. Clockwise also makes a lot of sense because the run to Cork is a whole lot quicker than the run to north and north west. That suggests starting in darkness so that you have the daylight along the Atlantic coast.
I would give a thought to arriving Cork before daylight, the route west isn't too bad once an hour west from Cork you need daylight. That gives you more daylight on the poorer roads up north west. Depending on counties don't forge there is motorway between Limerick and Tuam, that new section is opened and a cracking route.....but no services. Also, darkness up north west in December is a good 30-40 minutes later in the morning than in Dublin, further west and further north.

You’re all good with the route you need to take and the records you need to keep?
The guide on the website and download pack is pretty concise but if you need any further give me a shout.
