We stayed in a mixture of establishments whilst down there and on the way, Youth Hostels, pensions, hotels, motels, there are a couple I'll recommend, I'll do a bit of a ride report sometime soon. As for routes, I don't think you'll find a disappointing road anywhere in the Dolomites, try to get there at the beginning of the week and leave before the weekend, I'll elaborate soon in the aforementioned Ride report...sprintster wrote:I was fancying the Dolomites next year.Prefer to base myself in one place for 4-6 days and go out for day runs.Any tips on the best base, hotels or B&Bs,best routes etc. greatly appreciated. Re: Some pictures from Dolomites/Dubrovnik 2017
Thanks for the great photo's and the reminder of how stunning the scenery is. For me the beauty of the Dolomites is how they appear to just rise quickly out of the surrounding greenery unlike the Alps which are so vast they can appear very grey when in the middle of them.
Leaving Austria you get to ride South through Slovenia which is beautiful, Mount Mangart/Kranjska Gora national park/Lake Bled. We then took the fantastic (but slow going) Croatian coast road down to an overnight in Karlobag before getting the motorway down to Dubrovnik. Montenegro and Kotor Bay are doable in a day for there and then ........Allan F wrote:Thanks for the pictures. Dolomites & Austria can't go wrong touring there. Haven't been as far South as Croatia.
