Can anyone recommend a nice quiet camp site to base a walking trip around the Circ de Gavarnie in summer, i.e. a short drive away but still cool enough for the malamute's comfort?

Hi Simon, you have a small campsite near Gedre "Le Pain de Sucre" , and 3/4 in Luz-Saint-Saveur, all look very nice, but never stoped at them as a bit too close to home.
I would think August is very, very busy, but outside that not too bad.
I organisée a BMW Rally in Argelest-Gazost a few years ago early September and was very quiet on the campsite were they stayed.

Thanks Will. I'll look at these. We probably won't go to France in August as there are too many wrinklies chugging around in Renault Clios - and Kangoos! - blocking the roads. But the July heat os what we're really trying to escape from at any opportunity.

Meanwhile, "I organisée a BMW Rally..." So, your PC has predictive script in French, surely you don't use a French keyboard do you?!!!

Hi Simon,

As Willie Spray states, there's camping at Luz....on the main drag in and it's 5 star. As with most camping it's hard to find one that's not close to a road ref. traffic noise.

Right at the foot of Troumouse, at Héas there's a seasonal restaurant, which lets you put a small tent up in their garden as it were.

As you know the busiest times are really August but as in most scenic places there's a steady influx of visitors.

It's easy enough to find camping.

:)

Unfortunately yes, UK and French keyboards on PC/Laptops and the iPad (Apple) seems to choose for you half way through a sentence as you can see!! :woohoo:
