I use Allens Performance Spud, they always have what I want and are in the UK, Robinsons Foundry is another source but I found to be more expensive ??Redmurty wrote:Cheers mate, just ordered new air filters 2 in number (one to wash one to wear) oil filter and a new cam/timing chain. The Sarge wrote: Trouble with Moroc it's freezing in the morning and then boiling hot in the afternoon and we travelled from sea level to the top of the Atlas, so do you carry lots of jets with you for the carb and different oils and filters ?
Spud, First off so glad the 'Old Girl' will live to see another day, they are pretty tough mills, as you now know. Anyway, the benefit of modern day oils is the range within which they can work, your Suzuki recommended 10W-40 could be expanded out to 5W-40 or 0W-50 in extreme conditions such as Morocco, that is the beauty of multi- grade oils. As for changing jets to compensate for altitude, its only ever been an issue to me in South America riding a big 2 stroke DT400, where Sea Level and higher passes were 8-15,000 ft difference. If you look at the jet range used for DR's in the states it's alarming, a good source of info is Gregory Bender, ( This Old Tractor ) he has a complete rundown on which jets to use for each condition. What you need is something that fits in the middle of your intended use and not at one extreme or the other. I get away with a 132 main because of the mods to airbox and exhaust but it will run perfectly well on a 127.5, with only a slight performance difference. Anyway, If you need any more info, parts or help give me a call, you got my number .. (thumbs)
