If the plug doesn't smell of fuel then its not getting fuel.sounds like it needs the carb stripping and cleaning, use a carb rebuild kit with new seals and gaskets to eliminate the leaking issue that you had I morroco (thumbs)

there's a pile of shite in the bottom of the petrol tank :side: so could just be the carb ? as you were behind me you saw how it just stopped after being refuelled. People keep asking me if it locked up I really don't think so.

You sorted your blow back out yet mate (thumbs) hot petrol on ya nuts in 40 plus degree heat :pinch:

cheers Spud ;)

France and Switzerland next for me Spud, on the GS next month - but can't wait for another big off road trip.
The 690 has been cleared, just needs a service and new back tire. Put a different rack on the back so I can strap a bag down without covering the breather pipe on the rear tank so hoping that will solve the blow back problem!
Your bike just died, no lock-up, no drama, just stopped!
I'm sure it'll be up and running soon.

so here's what my mechanic mate and I think has gone on....

I decided to drain the oil today seeing as the head ect is going to come off. Only about 500 ml of oil came out of the bike so when they did the oil change in Moroc did they only fill the frame ?

So rocker cover off tonight and the cam looks ok but a spring had come off the auto de-compressor so the head is coming off next to assess the damage done to the bore valves and piston, so hopefully I will get away with a top end rebuild.

These engines must be absolutely bullet proof if they can survive that

need to check any play on the crank but it's not knocking, and sort out the de-compressor issue, can that be fixed without needing a new cam ?

cheers Spud ;)

When you fill with oil through the filler on the top of the frame it makes it's way down into the engine eventually, there is a check screw at the bottom of the engine near the rear brake pedal, when it drips slowly out of there it's right.

Theses are tough old birds so don't panic Spud, if you do happen to need a crank I have a brand new one here.

If only 500 ml came out check the oil screen in the bottom of the frame, it is often overlooked and can cause a blockage. Put plenty of heat on the nut before you try to undo it as they can be a bitch to get out, that's why a lot of people overlook it.

cheers, Bob.
