Iceland
Iceland
Heading off East in the morning along coast towards Vik.
I would certainly recommend the ship bike and fly option to anyone coming to Iceland.

Re: Iceland
Yes Steve it was pretty painless and so much cheaper than going overland and using ferry from Denmark.
Will try and post pics as we go along.

Re: Iceland
Hi Steve.....I was quoted £650 ish (you get invoice after boat leaves and based on exchange rate that day) but when it came it was £354, so I checked and they said yes correct for return.....result! So with £150 (for both) return on EasyJet it worked out about 1/3 price of going overland.
Managed a quick look round Reykjavík today in warm sunshine.

Re: Iceland
Goods stuff, looking forward to a ride report and some more pics. Food for thought as Imminghams only 3/4 hr from where i live.
Chaos is the only camouflage that incompetence needs to operate at full capacity.
I dunno where that road goes, might as well go take a look anyway there's no where else i need to be right now.

Re: Iceland
After fuelling up both us and the bike we set off East along South coast towards Vik. We are trying to keep days shortish giving time to stop and explore, so we quickly we able to get off the 1 and find some small gravel roads that hug the coast. Just before Vik we were on a mission to find the US Navy plane that crash landed on the beach in 1973. The beach is lunar landscape, just incredible.
With all this off road to play with you can see why the locals like their vehicles supersized.
The next morning was off along the coast towards Hofn past the huge water falls and the glacial lake of Jokulsarlon, where the ice reaches the sea and huge chunks lie on the black sandy beach.

Re: Iceland
We have managed to book accommodation for our trip (getting too soft to camp) and have made sure that most of places having a little kitchen to help keep costs down. At lunchtime best place to eat is at cafés attached to most petrol stations, the soup of the day and coffee (both free refills) is spot on.
Our warm cosy shed for the night and no noisy neighbours.
The road on day 3 between Hofn and Egilsstadir hugged the coast winding it's way along the fjords, nice tarmac and some hard packed gravel.
We have 3 nights here so can go off exploring without our luggage so off to Hafnatangi to the puffin colony a 100 mile out and back on a mainly gravel road (the TKC 70's seem up to the job). This is as far East as you can get.
We spent ages being amuzed by these cute little birds.
Then after talking to 2 Germans on rented bikes we decided to go down the fjord the ferry arrives into.....Seydisfjordur, well worth it
