Hi one and all,
totally new to the forum so hoping I am posting this in the right place...
Due to odd personal circumstances I am living in the UK but riding in Europe for 12 months, with a UK registered mbike, however I've not found anywhere in the UK that will let me buy insurance cover for 12 months off riding. Does anyone know of a broker or insurance policy that will allow me to pop back and forth for 12 months. I don't have to worry about any of the 90 days issues and visas, I just need to sort the insurance?
Any suggestions would be great.
How do the ABR staffers manage it?
Thanks
Gerb

Re: 12 months European insurance cover....
I have three bikes all insured with Bennets under the same policy, they use a number of different insurance brokers, so may be worth a call.
The cost of my insurance has just dropped by £100 which is certainly unusual, in fact it is a bit worrying.

Are you saying that your bike is out of the country for 12 months or yo7 use it to visit Europe regularly over a 12 month period? What nationality are you?

Re: 12 months European insurance cover....
British born and bred as is my other half, so a rule of thumb would be I live and work in the UK but spend every weekend and holiday in Europe in particular Belgium where my missus works. I've tried the usual insurers such as Bennet's and Carole Nash but no joy there, I have been able to do this with the car through a specialist broker but they will not insure the bike and don't know of anyone they could refer me too. I think the complication may be that I am trying to maintain full comprehensive cover, but the policies once your out of your agreed European cover time drop you to the minimum cover required, so third party only. The insurance would need to only cover myself and a pillion as the missus does not ride the motorcycle.
Hope that clarifies things

Re: 12 months European insurance cover....
So the 90 out of 180 days do matter. Does the bike stay in Belgium? If so why not register it there? The only downside of that is that you as a U.K. resident wouldn’t be able to use it in the U.K.
A while ago I had a U.K. registered bike with 12 months cover. I used a company called Forces insurance which offered 12 months cover even though I wasn’t a serviceman. Do you know anyone at SHAPE. perhaps they could suggest something similar. The other companies I know of like LV are used by second home owners but only seem to cover cars. Stuart Collins(?) also gets mentioned.
It’s a problem that seems to be very British. Every German and French vehicle insurance I’ve taken out in the last 35 years has come with a 12 month Green Card as standard.

Hi,
thanks for the response, Stuart Collins is the broker I use for the car. I have not heard of nor has anyone ever mentioned Forces insurance, but then I am not linked to the Military.

Re: 12 months European insurance cover....
Just to confirm I tried the Forces insurance and they confirmed that they do not do motorcycle cover, nor does SHAPE as such. I don't know if it's possible to close this link as I will convert the bike to Belgium plate as I have confirmed I can ride it as much in the UK as I wish once converting the bike onto a Belgium plate. Thanks for your efforts!

If you're a UK resident you can't ride or drive your own foreign registered vehicle in the UK and have to register it in the Uk within two week of arriving.

Re: 12 months European insurance cover....
Since registration went online you don’t have any time to ride an imported vehicle before you register it. You are not even allowed to ride it out of the port.
You are correct, a U.K. resident cannot use a non U.K. registered on U.K. roads.
