Truely shocking to me French Violence

Post by bikenav »

As someone who has travelled all over France for many years loving the country too this is shocking, I rarely enter larger towns or Cities so perhaps do not get the full picture.A bit of back story I have only watched the odd episode but this guy is a few weeks in to a big tour with no real plan when to return home to Scandanavia and staying with random people a long the way helping him out. he is caught out a little late and being escorted by a previously met helper back to his home someplace in the South of France. judge for yourself skip to about 15.0 minutes if you like

According to the news 874 cars were set alight on NYE in France in a decade-old tradition, so maybe belting motorcyclists falls under the same tradition??

Happens in many Cities all over the world without making any news channel or even being reported to the Police. Fortunately for every mindless thug there are infinitely more kind and caring people who are happy to help strangers.
That bloke has had some serious shite happen to him in the last few years but still keeps on getting back up and swinging his leg over the bike.
Open your eyes and you see what is in front of you, open your mind and you see a bigger picture but open your heart and you see a whole new World.

It’s a bit dangerous to take one incident and use it to represent a nation. Which of these two new stories do you think represents life in Britain best?

Agree it has to kept in perspective I am sure most of us have met many people who have gone out of the way to offer us help and welcome in their respective countries, I have never come across violence myself, people for the most part are good but an example of the rare opposite is worth seeing if it might help to keep someone safe sometime. Roll on the summer I am sure I will be travelling through France again avoiding large urban areas as I have always done, and the dark too.

It turned out nice today so I went for a walk through the countryside near to my house. I wasn’t expecting to find this.

The elderly lady driving it had misjudged a corner and the car flipped over ending up in the field with her hanging upside down from the seatbelts. I arrived a few minutes after it had happened by which time two cars were stopped and their drivers, both people I know really well had helped the driver out of the car. She seemed amazingly OK and another person who i presumed was a close friend took her straight to the local medical centre. That person who I didn’t know phoned me later to let me know that she had been taken to hospital and her husband, at home with Alzheimer’s, had been collected and taken to a facility close to where she was. I offered to stay with the car until the recovery vehicle came. I spent my time walking around never far from the car. Every single vehicle that passed stopped to check that I was OK, presuming it must be my car.
This is part of what makes France special for me. A place where there is a real sense of community and everyone looks out for others whether they are friends and neighbours, strangers or, in my case, a foreigner. Nothing was too much trouble for anybody.
This is yet another of the reasons that France is a great place to visit and travel through. If things go wrong you are far more likely to discover the support that I saw today than the behaviour highlighted in the video.
And yes I do know that all countries have lovely people living in them, the passing pedestrian who took our damaged motor caravan clutch pedal down into his apartment block cellar to weld it one Easter Sunday morning, the young Dutch lads who drove me 50km home after my car burst into flames at the roadside or the German Honda dealer who lent us tools and brought bottles of iced water when a friend’s Blackbird needed a bit of TLC on the way to Assen. There’s a big world out there full of kind helpful people. Get out on your bike and enjoy it, don’t be put off by one off videos or news stories.

Most people I've met in my travels are nice and helpful. Some have become friends that I stay in touch with. But stuff can happen, you can simply be in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Didn't someone once say that the IQ of a mob is equal to the dumbest person there, divided by the number of people?
