Keeping foreign bike in UK after travels.

Post by fastrhino »

I just bought a BMW in Australia it is a 2016 R1200GSA.

My plan is to ship the bike to the USA and spend several months there before shipping the bike to Europe for a UK and continental Europe touring holiday.

After this I plan to reside in the UK.

Does anyone know the process to import the BMW to the UK which I will have owned for over a Year by the time I settle back in the UK.

Anyone done this and know the pitfalls and workarounds?

any advice much appreciated.

I don't know the in and outs but it's definitely possible. My DR650 is from Perth, the previous owner brought it with him when he moved back to UK.

So potentially it should be relatively easy to do this.

Looks like a bit of bureaucracy involved but has a returning expat there should be no import VAT.

now to choose the route home from Perth.
