If I remember rightly in ‘India the Shimmering Dream’ they take a Broom handle Mauser. Although they seem to have managed without the modern ‘essentials’ of a sat nav and mobile phone.

True, but I find the loofah, fullers earth and permanganate of potash awkward to pack :D

Don’t know how the supply of tea found it’s way onto the luxuries list - and no mention of a hip flask filled with Bushmills

Yeah, I thought exactly that. One is allowed a pipe and tobacco but how is a chap supposed to get by beyond civilisation without a wee dram of fortification - for medicinal purposes of course ? Perhaps just shoot a native and drink his.
