I’m fairly local to the Channel Tunnel and made the same journey the opposite direction to Mull a little while back. Rather than slog the motorways I made a point of no dual carriagewaysand visit parts of the country I hadn’t visited before. Hugged the East Coast, the Wash, Linconshire Wolds, Humber Estuary, Yorkshire Dales, Kielder Forest Drive, Holy Island, Edinburgh and finally Mull via Gkencoe etc. I used Air BnB with private accom for £40 a night (two stops but easy to do less). To be honest the journey there was just as good as Mull itself, if you can spare the time I’d do the same again rather than sit on the A1/M1.

If you do elect to transport the bike ahead you can deliver it to mine and I’ll collect you from the Train Station. 30 minutes to the tunnel

Seen photos of this place over the years but never been quite near enough/ or remembered it to visit but will be heading past Reims in a few months and will take a wee detour to finally see it. Hope to have the same sort of sky too.

Cheers for the reminder!

It's worth a trip there, if your passing. I was there in 2015. The first bike in the line is my old Fazer 1000 8-) .
I'd like to be able to tell you that I wheelied all the way down the straight through the gears...but I can't  .

I live 5 miles from the ferry port in Cork which has 2 sailings a week to Roscoff and also 2 to Santander.

I meet lots who come across from Scotland and north of England on an early ferry into Larne or Belfast and then take the road to Cork [its all motorway if you want] and the Saturday ferry leaving at 4pm arrives Roscoff 7am next morning. www.brittanyferries.com and it uses the Pont Aven, same ferry that does the UK to Spain route.

Although there is a little longer drive to Cork ferry crossing time is very short, you can make south west France on same day you arrive if that's your style. I use this one all the time now and it comfortably gives me three weeks there.

There is then another ship that does a round trip to Roscoff and 2 round trips to Santander each week.

Dublin Cherbourg route is www.irishferries.com

Its a very old formula 1 track that enthusiasts are gradually restoring. Whats left of the circuit is roads now and it makes a good photo stop. They were teaching learners on it which I thought was pretty cool. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reims-Gueux
