Travel insurance - any suggestions

Post by PatC »

I'm planning a bit of a South American adventure for next January. I worked in Southern Chile for while 20 years ago and have a very good friend living out there. I'm planning on visiting with another mate and riding the Careterra Austral to its end, then ferry to Puerto Natales, Torres del Paine, Punta Arenas, Ushuaia then back north on Ruta 40 before crossing back into Chile. We're going with a local operator who is a friend of my friend (if you get my drift). We've sorted the route, will be using the outfitters bikes and the flights are booked. Does anyone have any recommendations when it comes to travel insurance companies. I've looked on line and ,as ever, there is a bewildering selection. Just wondered if there was anyone that ABR forum members would recommend.

LV=. They were Brittania Rescue.
Covered me for 500cc Royal Enfield in India.
Their annual policies are good value and have decent cover.

Give Holiday Safe a call.
We are currently using a 24 month worldwide policy from them.
It covers us to ride any motorcycle that we have a licence for as long as we are wearing a helmet, regardless of what local law says.

I would say it’s worth phoning to describe exactly what you are planning to do to make sure you get the correct policy.

I did an online quote, then called with the reference number to check details and completed the purchase.
I saved about 20% that way.

And make sure you declare any medical conditions too.

Good luck, enjoy the trip and let us all know how it goes in a ride report....please. :D

Also take a look at Navigator Travel Insurance, they will cover you for off-road riding on your own bike anywhere in the world

I've not yet had to use my travel insurance but just in case make sure you're covered for the bikes and areas you'll be riding and declare and medical conditions, you don't want to give them any chance of wriggling out of paying up.

Not cheap but highly rated; I used them when I did a similar trip to your planned trip.

Thank you for all the suggestions. Personal recommendations are always worth having. We'll look into these and sort something out.

Yes, will definitely try to post a trip report and pictures etc. when I get back.

Thanks,

Another vote for HolidaySafe - although I’ve never had to claim. They covered us racing at Erzberg last year as well as trail riding etc in Spain.
