Realistically that route is a 2 day trip.

I would go with flintlocks idea. also a 2 day trip though to enjoy it.

Greetings,

How about a detour off the A74M onto the A701 and visit Rosslyn Castle, Roslin, for lunch before going on to Edinburgh?

Definitely consider following the Old Military Road from Perth via Braemar for a bit, it should put a smile on your face heading into Aberdeen. The east coast roads aren't the most exciting otherwise

I did take P4ulie's advice and did the Old military road.
Good advice it was to, on that bit I wished I'd gone on the bike.

To be fair I think a couple of others mentioned it. The Military Road is a cracking route up to Inverness & avoids the worst of the average speed cameras on the A9

And if heading to Aberdeen, then carrying on north at Crathie (towards Cock Bridge  / Strahdon ) on the A939 to follow the river Don into Aberdeen is much nicer road that following the A93 after you've passed Aboyne. Though it does add a few extra miles.
