This mornings breakfast, tea drinking, showers and tea drinking was all done and dusted much earlier despite some more tea.
We got our bike gear on and headed west towards Arthur River. The ride over there was very pleasant and we stopped at a small village called Marrawah.
I had to go in to ask them to turn on the fuel pump and than the woman followed me back outside to watch me fill up the two bikes and make a note of how much I’d spent.
Sarah tried to make conversation, about how quiet the roads were, the forestry work in the area, he tourist season......No, nothing, blank, didn’t have a clue.
I reckon that if something had happened the other side of the petrol pumps that would have been like the other side of the world to her.
We didn’t bother buying a drink as planned, let’s just go.
Instead we stopped at Arthur River. A very pretty river outlet into the ocean and lots of decent looking houses.
The first cafe we saw....closed!
The second cafe we saw....open!
The choice of lunch....pie!
We had pie!
We had to pay in cash!
We got robbed of $2 as the sweet old lady running the place hid a $2 coin under a 50 cent piece and blatantly asked for $2!
Now the bit that I’m still struggling with in all this.....I gave her another $2!!
We ate the pies, drank our drinks....and then went back in to the shop for a choccy bar!!

The next 40 odd km were marked as gravel road on our map so we set off thinking that it’s make a change to actually seek out a gravel road.
Fresh tarmac. The whole section was fresh tarmac. Probably some of the best tarmac we’ve seen since we’ve been in Tasmania.
We rode on through the forests and farmland making a nice big loop back to Stanley. A leisurely ride with lots of sweeping bends. Going no faster than 50ish mph it was another one of those ‘this is why I ride a bike’ days. Perfect.

I didn’t take any photos today, it just didn’t happen. Sitting on the bike swooping along seemed to be where it was at.
So now we’re back at the campsite, the higher temperature than of late that we had this afternoon is gone.
We’re back at the camp kitchen having had another bargain basement dinner. Watching a well dressed bloke getting angry trying to park his $80,000 caravan (we googled it) with his shiny white Range Rover (Sport, not a proper one. As my mate Mr B would say) has been entertaining for the last hour.
His wife and dog stood by and waited. The caravan is far from level and they have a milk crate as a step to help make the climb in to the ‘van easier. Such fun!!

I’ll sign of by saying that my cup of tea is very nice and that it’s ....

Two happy people, two happy bikes.

We woke to rain on the tent on Saturday morning. By the time breakfast and tea had been done the rain had stopped and we had to pack away only a slightly damp tent and groundsheet. As the plan was to camp again for the next few nights it wasn’t a problem.

Our plan for the day was a to make a straightforward and leisurely ride to Longford. A fellow camper recommend JJ’s bakery in town......

Our ride took us through a twin called Penguin which was very pretty. We stopped in Somerset for tea and cake and yet again I fell for the wrong one. Raspberry Strudel. Basically a big wedge of raspberry jam in a bit of pastry.

The caravan park here in Longford is right on the river. It’s very peaceful so we may stay until Wednesday morning. That evening we are booked on the ferry back to Melbourne.
Our trip to the supermarket turned up a jar of pickled onions with a great name. I took a photo......

Two happy people, two happy bikes.

I’d seen on the map the we are staying only a few miles from the Symmonds Plain Race Circuit. Looking online told me that Saturday and Sunday was bike track days.
I thought that we could go and have a look. Only a short ride so a kind of a rest but something a bit different too.
The whole thing was much more laid back than any trackday I’ve done or been to in the U.K.
The bloke on the Harley V-Rod was wearing a textile Jacket and jeans!! He wasn’t alone.

We met a young Dutch guy in the ferry last week and he too was at the Circuit. He’s paid his money and was going to do a few sessions in the afternoon on his 650 V-Strom, jeans and trainers.
Sarah said that I should have a go too. I was a bit hesitant but as she said, when was I going to be here with my bike again.
£50 bought me a day license and an afternoon riding in the slow group.
What a buzz....it’s been a while since I’ve been on a race track, 2014 I think?? Unless you count the public road Circuit at Bathurst back in June.
I had a great time, the Circuit is a fairly simple layout so I felt at home after just a few laps. Obviously you get faster the more laps you do, during my second session I just thought about my trusty old bike and the journey ahead. So I pulled in and took my wrist band off. Job done. (I wasn’t the quickest, but far from the slowest 😎)

So I think that it’s still....

Back safe.....the biggest shame was that they wouldn’t let me out with the Panniers and Topbox on.
