Waking up to the sound of heavy wind and rain on the tent made the decision making process very easy. Stay for a fifth night.
So began another day, Weet-bix for breakfast at the camp kitchen with copious amounts of tea and chat.

By the time the morning rituals had been completed in the ablution block it was getting in for 11.30. Time for a walk along the seafront and lunch at the Bakery before it closed at 2 o’clock.
Australia has sometimes been a bit lacking on the food front, for our tastes anyway, but finding a good Bakery again was a joy.
Apple Studel, yes please.

We did manage to get away after our fifth night in Denham, despite strong winds making the tent less than easy to pack away.
Still, it all got put more or less in the places where it all lives....apart from out extra groundsheet....and it doesn’t look like we took much sand and shell bits with us....time will tell.

We’d seen some information on Stromalites. Things that grew way back at the beginning of time, things that gave off oxygen and were pretty much the start of life on Earth. Apart from the bacteria that groups together to make them.
Photos on the internet show them as an amazing thing to see. My photos however don’t.
In fact it was a fairly underwhelming sight, but for the fact of knowing how important they were to us actually standing there and being underwhelmed.

We then popped in to a campsite for a cold drink before heading back to the road. Rejoining the North West Coastal Highway. Destination Kalbarri.

We’d decided, we’ll I had, on a cabin. And a cabin we did find. No ensuite facilities and back in 1957 when it was put in its current position it must have been lovely!!
Oh well, you can’t have it all, all of the time.
It was actually a joy to sleep in a bed and not on the ground. So much easier to get into and out of.
It must be better as we’re still here.

Today is Monday, and last nights Indian meal is still giving value for money.

Another leisurely start saw another early lunch before we headed off to the Kalbarri National Park. Lots of rare orchids live out there. The sandy ground that makes up a large proportion of the area houses a diversity of plant life to rival a rainforest.

We went mainly to see the Z Bends in a gorge carved my the Murchison River and the rock formation known as Natures Window.
Entry to the park had a cost and as there are other parks that we have in the night do list we opted for the 1 month pass.
The nice lady let us buy one to cover the two bikes. It’s usually per vehicle but she reckoned that the number of wheels and people added up to a usual car customer.
We’ll see how that works out further down the road.

Another added bonus where that every single fly, all of them, were included in the price! Nice job.

Both places were Wows, not to crowded and easy to get to. So, Monday gets a 10 out of 10, like most days really.

Two happy people, two happy bikes.

We’ve just bought dinner at the local IGA supermarket. After the Indian last night I’m not sure if Beans on Toast is a good idea.

We were both pleased to be checking out of the cabin in Kalbarri. The campsite was actually nice and with hindsight we should have used the tent. But when we arrived a cabin was what we wanted after the time camping at Denham.

The road away from Denham had quite a few more sweeping curves, not bends, but there were definite changes in direction.
We had thought that we may stay at Port Gregory, next to Hutt Lagoon.
The Lagoon is pink, just like Lac Rose near Dakar. The historical end point of the Dakar Rally when it was in Africa.
The Lagoon was another wow. Port Gregory not so much so. We had a sandwich from the local shop made by Mrs Do I Look Like A People Person, looked out to sea for half an hour while eating it and got back on the bikes.

Further down the road, Highway 1 as usual, we saw an old settlement from the late 1800’s. Stone buildings mainly. Different from what we’ve got used to seeing.

Dongara felt like a nice town when we rode in so we stopped for a drink and had a look at accommodation choices.

Now, we should have gone to a campsite and put the tent up. But, I really didn’t want to. So we found a nice cabin in the seafront. I’m sure camping would have been OK even though the winds have got up and it’s rained a bit. A proper bed though.....nice!

We’ve spent the last couple of days wandering around and looking for a hosepipe. The sea spray will need rinsing off of the bikes for sure, apparently there’s a pipe at the boat ramp just down the road.

Yanchep National Park is just shy of Perth so that’s the plan for when we leave here in the morning. That’ll be Thursday I think.
Koala bears and Grey Kangaroos for the Camara all being well.

Then Perth, new rear tyres, new helmet visors and PinLocks.

I’ll let you know how we get on.....but for now it’s....

Two happy people, two happy bikes.
