Luckily otherwise it’d cost a fortune to stay here. The wonderfully clean Islands Caravan Park just a few km outside of Streaky Bay.
Everything is so clean at this park, the ocean views beautiful.....caravan park equals gravel which isn’t easy in the kness getting in and out of the tent....and the flies can get to you.
Our new fly nets have been deployed for the first time.
On the way here we stopped at the first Roadhouse for a top up of fuel and a drink. Boy were we glad we didn’t push on the extra 90 miles the day before. What a dump.
The rest of the day passed with us seeing a Dingo run across the road in front of us and plenty of road trains.
There was a lot of mining equipment being taken somewhere. Lots of Over Size wide and tall loads.
I spotted a sign for Australia’s biggest windmill in a small town we passed through. It had to be visited. I’ll post a pic.
Getting excited about facilities at a campsite is a bit sad but here I am verging in just that.
The ablution block is so clean, it’s not just old and tired cubicles.
Each is an en-suite type affair....and so clean! Did I mention that they’re clean?
We had a wander in to town this afternoon, Sunday’s end early in these small towns and most things that do open are closed by 2pm.
The lady camped next to us seems nice, she’s on her own in a Toyota Landcruiser.
No tent, no camping trailer, no caravan. Just the car with a table and chair, singular.
With the rear seat folded flat and a sleeping mat.....home on the road. One plate, one mug....no clutter.
She’s in to her 4th month on the road so it must be working.
Although we’re not to keen on booking things in advance we have made ferry reservations to get from Melbourne to Tasmania and back again.
A 12 hour overnight crossing.
We’re heading off from here towards Port Lincoln tomorrow. The weather forecast is good, back up to the high 20’s.
So for now it’s Two Happy People, Two Happy Bikes.

Streaky Bay at low tide. A nice beach walk. Another one not to swim from due to sharks so we were told.
We did walk out to the little island through about 6 inches of water though. We are Adventure Bike Riders after all !!!

I have already mentioned the lady that was camped next to us at Streaky Bay, in a Toyota Landcruiser. No tent, no caravan, minimal stuff.
We chatted with her a fair bit, she was always nice to talk to.
We were both amazed when she told us she was nearly 80 years old!!
She doesn’t listen to the radio while driving, there are long stretches of country with out radio coverage. She doesn’t bother with CD’s.
The Landcruiser is actually her sons and she did admit that she doesn’t really know how the radio works.
She sometimes drives for 7 hours in a day. She’s covered a lot of the inland routes sometimes not seeing another vehicle for a couple of hours.
She once competed in an around Australia air race. Her and two other ladies. They didn’t win overall but won their class.
Shes travelled to many countries, quite often on her own.
