Today, the 12th, we have ridden back to the Erldunda Road House in the Stewart Highway. Another 185 miles in the book.
From here we plan to head north to Darwin. A 1000 and some mile ride on the same road.
Hopefully the nighttime temperatures will start to rise a bit as early morning is fairly cold in the tent.
I think tonight will be the twelfth in a row tent wise. It seems to be a fairly quick and slick operation getting set up and packed up now.

I did think of something else amazing to tell you while I was riding but I can’t remember what it was now....so instead I’ll tell you that I found $2 this morning, 5cents yesterday and $1 a week ago.

Got it, I’ve remembered.

We were woken at about 5am by Dingoes howling.
We’d seen one mouching about the campsite earlier in the day.

That was it, wildlife report over.

We fuelled the bikes up before leaving, and yes we got going later than we’d hoped.
Packing up has been sorted in to a fairly orderly procedure but we always seem to find someone to chat to.
This morning was no different. This time it was a family with three kids....and they had chocolate milk. We had Weet-bix eaten from our mugs.
I reckon that this is a great solution but apparently we need bowls. As we needed new gas canisters we headed back to the camping shop in Alice Springs....and to a supermarket for new supplies. Uncle Bens rice, yum.
We did get other stuff too, not just the rice.

As the Aileron Road House has been good on the way south it seemed like the place to stay on the way north.
Same nice grass to put the tent on, same dodgy shower head, same quality dinner and the same Cider and Beer.
I’m amazed at how spontaneous this adventuring lark can be......

We had been told by quite a few people of a great campsite to stay at at a place called Banka Banka (steady...).
That was 500km up The Stuart Highway. All but 70km we’d ridden before, all be it in the other direction.
We actually managed to get going at 9.30. The day passed without anything much to report really. The temperature gradually increased as we moved north. We stopped briefly for a snack, a cold drink or fuel as required.
We saw Guy, a Harley riding chap that we met at Kings Canyon, fuelling up in Tennants Creek. He was also on his way to Banka Banka. Unfortunately he beat us there and got the last decent patch of grass for his tent. Bugger! (You need an Aussie accent for that word.)

The lady at check in was a bit fierce, or just blunt and to the point, or maybe she’d been to the great Australian Customer Service School. A few people have...haha.

We found our pitch and set up. It was a bit slower today, maybe as it was 30+ degrees.

So, Banka Banka. Sandy, dusty, slimy shower walls, marginal camp kitchen.
Add to that a few cold ones, some very friendly people, and yes we do like Guy even though he’s on a Harley, a Country singer and it became a really nice evening.

We even used the new bowls for porridge at breakfast time. Money well spent.
Bringing us up to date. We didn’t really have a plan today, other than to keep on keeping on. We saw Guy a couple of times and a really annoying but well meaning bloke from Banka Banka. He suggested a place for an overnight stop but when we got there......even a free cup of tea didn’t persuade us to stay.

Daly Waters has a famous Pub that has camping but we wanted a Hotel room. Just a few km short of the pub there is a Road House. With en-suite rooms. Clean rooms, with proper beds, clean beds.

So here we are. The plan is to have another night here. I’ll check the bikes again as we seem to be losing a bit of pressure from all four tyres.
We want to do some washing, I know it’s boring but these Jones just don’t do themselves you know....
We also have a couple of Birthday cards to sort out, and some postcards to write.

I don’t think that I’ve got any new photos for you but I’ll have a look and post them if there are any.

Two happy people, two happy bikes.

Sorry for the off centre pic, there was a motor home parked right next to the landmark. They were changing a wheel I think......I know that the pic is probably sideways as well like at least half of the others. I’m a simple chap and sorting that kind of thing out is above my patience rating, sorry.

A few more from the Kings Canyon rim walk. Greg the barefoot Aussie was a great bloke. He could talk quicker than Desmo..........and that's saying something. Welcome back John.

Mount Panorama race circuit at Bathurst way back at the beginning of the trip. First time on a track for my F800GS, first time for Sarah and her bike too. An open road so not quite Brands Hatch........but a famous circuit all the same.

And proving that 'I know what I'm doing' I even wear protective footwear and workshop gloves while checking the bikes........LOL.
