Yeah, seen the same Almar. I've been out and about a fair bit today. Looks like, where it's appropriate, the old 90kmh signs are being covered over with a same-sized sign that indicates 'end of 70' or whatever (basically a round sign with a 70 crossed through). This is telling you that the restriction is over and you return to the national speed limit, which from Sunday will be 80 on single carriageway roads without a central barrier. They seem to be leaving 90 signs in place where they precede a dual carriageway section. So it's becoming clearer. But wait until the cover-signs get nicked (quite fancy one meself...) or fall off.

Haven't seen a single 80 sign today. HUGE number of gendarmes on my local roundabout an hour ago - checking docs and breath by the look of it.

For a while we were behind someone practicing for Sunday by going precisely 80kmh on a straight wide dry clear stretch of shimmering rural tarmac. We had about 50 lorries up our arse...

All very different from the old days when a group of us used to bomb down to the Bol D'Or on sports bikes at a million miles an hour and scratch about like loons in the hills. Les Flics even used to put their thumbs up sometimes. France was basically a playground for hooning. Luckily nowadays I stick to crochet, poetry and pressing flowers...

Daveuprite does one better than that by only having the bits with no numbers on! ;-)

Quite a few solar panels are Being installed along side the roads at the moment, my guess is to run new signs.

You're right there, France already had a lower A road limit than the UK but still had a higher accident rate so it's not speed that's the problem (as usual)

The problem is that the UK is talking about lower country road limit's, it'll make bugger all difference as there is very little that can be done to enforce the limit due to the huge mileage of roads that covers.

As Dave said, keep to the nice back roads (and trails).
